Calgary is growing by 96,000 people per year, a testament to our city's vibrancy and potential. We need a quality transit system to accommodate this growth, ensuring that everyone can get to work, go to the doctor, participate in our city’s cultural life, attend worship and visit family and friends.

We are asking you to write Premier Smith, Minister Dreeshen (Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors) and your MLA to tell them that it is important to have the Green Line funded, built in a way that serves Calgarians in north and south Calgary, and doesn't drive up costs further with yet another review.

Minister Dreeshen and Premier Smith,

I am writing to ask that the provincial government  find a solution to build the Green Line that serves the people of Calgary and does not waste the investments that citizens have already made in this project. This means going as far south as possible and meaningfully serving downtown and the Beltline. Crucially, the Green Line must be built in such a way that it can go can go north to meet the needs of citizens in North Central Calgary.

The Green Line is essential for Calgarians. With Calgary’s rapid growth, the Green Line is needed so that Calgarians can access jobs, services and opportunities. Calgarians need the over 20,000 jobs it will create. Calgarians need the Green Line to reduce pollution and traffic. Calgarians need the development and investment that the Green Line will attract. Communities in North Central Calgary especially need the Green Line built in a way that will connect North Central Calgary to downtown--it is not enough to just plan to build to the far south and forget to plan for those Calgarians in the north who have been waiting even longer for efficient transit service.

The Green Line is a key component of Calgary’s continued growth and prosperity. The provincial government has already reviewed this project, which has resulted in the cost overruns that are now being experienced. Further reviews will only delay the project, driving costs up further. Cancelling the current plan and the contracts in place will waste the investment already made.  With the provincial government’s support now, the province can be a partner with Calgarians in building a prosperous and vibrant future - supported by a Green Line as part of a quality transit system.

I am asking you to fulfill your commitment to Calgarians and Albertans and get the Green Line built. We are calling on you to put the people of Calgary before partisan politics and make a deal with the city. Please don't waste $ 2.1 billion of tax payers' money.
